Is This True When It Comes To Fitness?
Good fitness is not created in a vacuum. We are all dynamic, living, breathing, complex organisms that have unique requirements and produce different results. How one specific fitness program will provide someone benefits, another person may not have the same outcomes or experience.
This is why it is critical that fitness programs are designed to be tailored to an individual, allowing their distinctive health values to be taken into account in order to provide them the greatest outcomes, not just with a “one size fits all” approach. Programs that lack individual approaches should be avoided, as well as coaches that support them.
Although fundamentally there are rules that apply when it comes to good health, a solid fitness program should include these fundamentals, uniquely integrated with a personalized approach for a client.
The “one size fits all” approaches are often supported by people in the fitness industry that are trying to make a profit off of others that are naive to this world and lack an understanding of how their individual values affect their outcomes. Some of these sinister fitness influencers perpetuate this misinformation and even do it with a large amount of self-promotion, even though they know their path to success may have been the exact opposite of the information they promote to the general public.
They tell the public how they can quickly “lose weight in a couple weeks and keep it off” or “have washboard abs in a short amount of time” by promoting their uni-dimensional approaches, when in fact, they themselves gained these things over time by understanding their unique requirements and satisfying them over time to reach their goals. They continue to profit off their shallow, unrealistic promises because we don’t want to accept the hard fact…there is no quick fix when it comes to reaching our fitness goals.
We are partially to blame for these falsifications if we continue to promote the “one size fits all” approach. We need to ask ourselves…”Do we really believe this approach or are we really afraid to put in the effort and do the hard work that’s required in order to achieve our fitness goals?”
We are a society that individualizes everything from our wardrobes to our coffee orders. We all want to live in a free society that offers us the ability to develop our own individuality. We all want a voice to express ourselves and be heard. We consider individualism as a source of creativity, innovation and progress, but why don’t we view our fitness in this manner?
Unfortunately, some of us continue to support the idea that if we perfectly follow a “what I eat in a day” diet like an influencer, we’ll all achieve our fitness goals in a few weeks time. We desperately want to believe that if we follow the shallow guidelines of what is portrayed on social media, we’ll obtain the long-term results we desire.
“What I eat in a day”…
However, truth is…there are no magic pills or potions that will result in long-term fitness outcomes. A solid fitness program that incorporates an individualized approach, along with hard work, patience and discipline, are the keys to achieving your fitness goals.
A fitness program that incorporates a person’s respective movement and nutritional requirements, applying the principles that support good overall wellness, is one that is worth following. And, a fitness program that allows you to express your individuality while making progress, fulfills not only your humanism but also your fitness requirements in order to obtain your long-term goals.
Our uniqueness is something that should be celebrated, not patronized with a “one size fits all” approach. Our requirements, our experiences, our outcomes and our journeys are all unique to us. Only we can make the best decisions for ourselves. And this, in and of itself, is exciting because it means that great fitness isn’t out of reach for anyone.
We just need to stop thinking about ourselves, when it comes to fitness, as figures made out of a cookie cutter mold. We are so much more than that! Each of us are unique individuals, all with our special needs, requirements, conditions and responses. The more individualized we can treat our fitness and nutrition, the better our overall outcomes will be.
What makes us authentic and beautiful as mothers, is the fact that we can’t be forced into a one-size-fits-all size or mold. And…we don’t want to be! The only tag we should want to wear, is one of our own authenticity.
